I HAVE NEVER MET A PEOPLE SO BEAUTIFUL.. They are simple yet strong, faithful and loving. The Tarascan Indians, also known as Purhépechas, are situated around Lake Patzcuaro.. fishermen, artisans and now after generations.. “Fishers of Men.” Three churches and two missions have been established in their ancient towns full of a history beginning from the pre-Columbian period through the Spanish Conquest up until this day with a new chapter now being written. The Word, hope... a living and glorious hope… and a love celebrated and shared, are now seasoning the traditions and culture of an age-old people.
THE TARASCAN MINISTRY IS RICH with a faith and dedication exemplified in the labourers like Brother Jeronimo Lazaro, an 85 year-old saint, who has sown the precious seeds among his people for more than 60 years. Brother Rafael Morales and his lovely wife Angeles have opened the doors for the Holy Spirit to flow and work anew in the community of Janitzio. Brothers Amador and Experito have completed their training and are now pastoring in their indigenous communities. Pastor Chacho and his wife Lupita are beginning to raise their church which was once burned in the community of Santiago Azajo.
AN INDIAN COUNCIL IS BEING PLANNED to deal with their community and ministerial needs. Who would be better equipped than those who share their common language and culture?
A MINISTRY ESTABLISHED IN TARASCAN INDIAN COMMUNITIES which includes three churches, two missions and four ethnic pastors.
